- France (born in it)
- Germany: (grandparents live next door on the border. I have great memories of tasty sausages and cool public playgrounds from my youth)
- Germany: (again) as an exchange student in middle school. I still have a seering memory that I didn’t even know what my home region name was in German (Lorraine = Löthringen)
- Luxemburg: dad was a smoker, cigarettes were cheap there, end of story?
- UK: went three time, in middle school, high school and with family. Best time was in high school when I boarded at this Elvis double’s. We always listened to great music and he made pancakes EVERY morning ❤️
- Denmark: exchange student in high school. It’s a beatiful country with great history. Too bad that my pen pal/exchange student and I were both timid :[
- Catalogna, Spain: with friends. Lasting memory is that I took some pleasure swimming again there. Wasn’t my thing since PE teacher said to my face I could’nt swim… 😬
Looking back, I’m quite privileged 😅
MrMobius @sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Has anybody here actually succeeded in getting an online conservative/right-winger to reflect and legitimately and long term shift their views left?11·2 months agoIt’s not online but at my usual bar I often get into arguments with a monarchist guy and a free-market/deregulation dude. They often tell me they’ll someday manage to make me “take the red pill”. It’s kind of annoying for them to disregard my views like that. That’s why I don’t actively try to change theirs.
That’s so cool! Now I’m ashamed of my boring wooden rectangle bases. 😅
MrMobius @sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What changes could you make to a specific movie that would change it into a horror movie?3·2 months agoYou’ve got a few episodes of Love Death and Robots that really have that twilight Zone feel (and some are set in space!). That’s also the case for the pacman episode of Secret Level. This one gave me chills down my spine. 😅
MrMobius @sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is the plan for the US + Russia to full on spitroast Europe? What is realistic here, in 3-9 years?101·2 months agoYeah… they’re already in a bad spot. But one can always dig oneself into a deeper hole.
MrMobius @sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is the plan for the US + Russia to full on spitroast Europe? What is realistic here, in 3-9 years?233·2 months agoThe US won’t annex Greenland, that would basically make a pariah of them on the international scene. Like Russia there would be economic sanctions, trade deals would be broken, american assets abroad would be seized and this could include american military bases. So yeah, most likely the US governmint is gonna keep acting like a childish bully trying to drive a wedge between Greenland and Denmark. And maybe between every european nations…

Most laptops will be more or less fully compatible with linux I think. Though a few niche features like finger print or key card readers might be a hassle to get working. To me, the most important thing is the keyboard since some manufacturers forgo the end of/start of line buttons, for instance.
MrMobius @sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Measles has spread to where I am at. Other than a mask/Vaccine, what else can help protect against it?1·2 months agoWell, think of WHO as the 'least bad source of information", not the absolute truth provider. To get closer to the truth, you’d need to do a bit of journalist work: do a background check on the scientists involved (what have they published? Is their work respected by their peers? Have they been approached by lobbies?) and compare different sources (for instance, look at what the Robert Koch Institut in Germany and the Institut Pasteur in France have to say). But, to do that you might need to speak several languages, but above all, you would need a lot of time for research. So checking the most reliable source is generally the practical course of action for most people.

Other than a mask/Vaccine, what else can help protect against it?92·2 months agoYou should take everything you hear on the internet with a grain of salt (including here). You should really trust the guidelines of your country’s health ministry or the WHO. Then again, the WHO has said some crazy shit in the past…
MrMobius @sh.itjust.worksto Linux@lemmy.ml•Can we please, PLEASE for gods sake just all agree that arch is not and will never be a good beginner distro no matter how many times you fork it?3·3 months agoI’m not completely up to speed with the core principles of Arch, but I think it revolves around KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid!). Meaning that Arch doesn’t hold your hand with nice GUIs. Instead, it tries to make the command line interface as easy to understand and use as possible. So if you run into a problem, you’re more likely to understand how to fix it, or at least what the root cause is. Which is not a given when you’re used to distros with more abstraction like Ubuntu. Then again, this design concept is not for everyone.

Wait, you can host a website on a raspberry pi !? But is it really cheaper than shared hosting, for instance? And even then, quality-wise, it cannot be that good, can it?
MrMobius @sh.itjust.worksto Linux@lemmy.ml•there is just something about FLOSS updates192·5 months agoThe “wait for the bar filling up” should be a documented addiction in WHO standards. 😅
I would rather go looking in a bar or a club. It’s a bit warmer there.
About the ethics of murder or other crimes in alternate universes : I actually pondered this quite a bit before. Imagine a world where accessing parallel realities is accessible to everyone (wether it be time traveling or “booking” a divergent universe to do as you wish). Well it could be morally accepted that it’s an OK means of stress relief to insult, vandalize, harm, kill torture in these realities (as long as you behave in the main reality). My conclusion is that hurting people is wrong, even if you can revert the timeline or delete the universe as if you hadn’t done anything. Hurting people in the moment is wrong even if there are no consequences on the world around you, because there is still a lasting change on yourself.
