Just got my driver’s license (18 yo). Nervous thinking about starting to drive on my own.

What car is that? Everything I know about my car is that it’s a Mini Cooper from 2015. I don’t really know much about cars and their technicalities.

1982 Ford Escort wagon. It had been parked under a pine tree for much of its life before I got it, and was full of pine needles and mold. Be proud of your Mini Cooper!

Nice. The F56 Minis are good cars. I have an S and it’s been a fun car. I also enjoyed driving the base F56.

My only problem is that these cars eat tires for breakfast, and BMW spec’ed these with expensive run-flat tires.

So, set a calendar reminder to rotate your tires. That will extend their life. I also know some people who bought a spare tire, put it in the trunk, and got rid of the run flats. But that eats into cargo space.

    Nice car enjoy your ride.

Don’t know much about mini Cooper but I know that if someone needs good and reliable car for beginners that isn’t expensive I recommend Renault Clio or Twingo.

Mine was a '91 GT, and there’s another commenter whose first car was a '92 Escort wagon. I guess the Ford Escort makes for a great first car.

I remember being able to start my car, then take the key out and lock the doors while the engine warmed up. Could also turn the ignition with a coin.

Nice! I hear those are fun little cars.

My first car is a 2004 Honda Accord. I say is, because I still have the bugger as my daily!

I remember my dad had me do all sorts of safety, reliability, and cost of ownership research before coming up with a short list of potentials. It was fun, but a lot of work; worth it in hindsight. I downplayed some of the details such as 240 hp or a 0-60 time of less than 6 seconds with “uh, it’s a Honda”. Felt like I sort of got away with something for a first car. Haha!
