There are so many jobs where looking at only the details in front of you at a given time is absolutely crucial, and yet being called myopic is still an insult.

This is an important question. People get into things for the right reasons and then when the money comes in they sometimes start convincing themselves that whatever makes them money is now the “right reasons”. Being a politician should pay well, but should not be nearly as lucrative as it currently is.
