    1. An ongoing disagreement between my partner and I regarding the proper setting for the humidifier was causing stress and this experiment will attempt to solve the problem.

    2. I prefer that the humidifier be set to 50% but my partner likes 45%. If my partner cannot see the current reading, I hypothesize that they will no longer remember to change the setting.

    3. A small bottle of bactericide that is normally on a shelf near the humidifier.

    4. The small bottle of bactericide was placed on top of the display, making it difficult to read by a casual observer.

    5. The humidifier has remained at 50% for several days now.

    6. Visual reminders are important cues to adjust the humidifier settings. By removing the visual reminder my partner is no longer driving me crazy.

    Purpose: To discover if different coloured skittles have distinctive flavours to the human palette.

    Hypothesis: Skittles have distinctive flavours but can not be differentiated without visual cues ie. colour.

    2.5. Counter-Thesis: Skittles have distinctive flavours and can be detected without seeing their colour.

    Materials: 1lb bag of skittles, 30 plastic easter eggs, blindfold, notepad, scissors, red pen, blue pen, science tongs

    Procedure: Skittles will be separated by colour and placed into plastic easter eggs in groups of five(5) per egg. A folded piece of paper will have the colour of the skittles written in blue(blue) pen ink. The participants will be blindfolded so as not to see the colour of the skittles. After eating the skittles and making a colour guess, the guess will be written down in red(red) ink and placed inside the egg. Once all eggs have been consumed, they will be opened and have the actual colour (in blue ink) compared to the guess (red ink) and logged for comparison. The double blind will prevent the tester from subconsciously influencing the participant’s guess as neither testers nor participants will know the actual colour(in blue) until all skittles have been consumed. Three participants will be isolated from each other and tested subsequently.

    Observations: Correct guesses:

    Participant A: 24/30

    Participant B: 25/30

    Participant C: 19/30

    Conclusions: Yellow and Green were most commonly mixed up, but the participants correctly guessed the skittle colours at a rate higher than chance, proving that skittles have uniquely differentiated flavours. ad. Participant C was the only smoker, and other studies indicate that smoking reduces ability to taste.

    Took a long time cheesecake recipe and swapped out a key ingredient.

    It uses 1 full cup of Dutch Processed Cocoa powder. The typical powder has 0.5g of fat per tablespoon. I found a new one that is 2g of fat per tablespoon.

    This will increase the cocoa fat content of the cake from 8g to 32g. The result should be a creamier, tastier cheesecake.

    https://lemmy.world/post/22628212

    No results yet as the cake had to bake for 8 hours, cool, and be refrigerated. It’s in the final stage now.

    The chocolate stuck to my fingers after removing the pan is less bitter as expected.

    1. Purpose - Wanted some protein for Sundubu Jjigae (aside from the tofu) but was too lazy to handle and cook raw meat.
    2. Hypothesis - If I used the last remaining frozen, microwaveable burger patties in the freezer, I might be able to add protein into my soup without altering the taste too much from the processed patties.
    3. Materials(if any) - Sundubu Jjigae ingredients and frozen fully-cooked burger patties.
    4. Procedure - Perpare Sundubu Jjigae according to recipe and add 3-4 burger patties.
    5. Observations - The burger patties looked fine even though I threw them in without defrosting. Cook long enough for the patties to defrost and get warm.
    6. Conclusions - The patties’ seasoning did not alter the taste of the soup and added the protein I was craving. Success.

    Purpose: Determine if you are able to harm teammates, or they are able to harm you in Counter Strike 2.

    Hypothesis: Teammates are able to harm one another, although damage is decreased relative to damage against enemies.

    Materials:

    • 2 copies of the game Counter Strike 2
    • an in-game AWP rifle

    Procedure Aim at teammate’s head and click mouse.

    Observations Teammate is dead.

    Conclusions Friendly fire is enabled in Counter Strike 2. Further testing is required to determine if damage is decreased relative to damage against enemies.

              How cells respond to different doses of drugs

    Purpose: The purpose of this experiment is to see whether cells respond differently when exposed to different doses of the same drug.

    Hypothesis: The drugs will work the best at the highest dosage, but it won't work at the lowest dosage.

    Alternate hypothesis: All of the dosages work equally well.

    Materials:
    * Cells
    * 48-well plate
    * Cell media
    * Recording device
    * Micropipettes
    * Micropipette tips (a lot)
    * Serological pipers (a lot)
    * Serological piper pump
    * Cell culture hood
    * Drug (5 mg)
    * DMSO (5 mL)
    * PBS (5 ml)
    * Stimulus (500 uL)
    * PCR strip (2)

    Procedure:
    1. Using the cell culture hood, put cells and cell media into a 48-well plate
    2. Put the plate into a recording device and start recording
    3. Dilute drugs to the correct concentrations with DMSO
    4. Put the drugs and the stimulant and the PBS into PCR strips for easier usage later
    5. Stop the recording and put drugs into the plate
    6. Wait 30 minutes
    7. Put stimulant or PBS into the plate
    8. Resume recording
    9. After several days, stop the recording

    Results: The cells died :'(

    Conclusions: Science is hard

    I didn’t go through all of those steps, but a conspiracy theorist on Xitter claimed that BlueSky automatically bans anyone who says “There are only two genders.”

    It’s a testable claim, so I tried it and was not banned. My post was also not deleted and it’s been over a week.

        No, it’s not controversial in the way right wing idiots pretend that it is. I think some moron probably got banned for being transphobic, then started spreading this conspiracy theory on Xitter.
