Husband relocated our family
Did you have no say in the decision?
Are people starting to flee the US?
Insert always has been meme.
I mean if two different lemmy posts of people leaving the us counts then yeah.
Is moldova a livable place ? In my country we have an image of it as a stuck in the 1960s soviet hellhole. That image very much surprised me.
Depends on where you live. Some neighborhoods are very nice, others are the typical Soviet hell. We live around Chisinau, and Chisinau is constantly developing. There’s always stuff opening up around here. I’d say if you don’t live in the countryside or the bad parts of the city, it’s livable. Here’s a drone shot of our house, you can see a bit of the surrounding area: it’s very nice, very green.
Oh ok, that’s a very fine house and neighbourhood !
Beautiful place, you’re lucky you got out when you did.
The reforms the president of Moldova is making seem to really be paying off
Just hope Trump doesn’t cause Ukraine to fold, because Moldova would be next on Putin’s list
Hope there’s a chance Moldova can join the EU, even if not perfect it seems to have improved the life of your neighbors.
So serene!!
House looks super nice. How do you like it there, why did you guys make the move?
It’s nice. Husband wanted to move somewhere with a low cost of living, and he was able to secure an entrepreneurial visa and open a business here. He wanted to live somewhere that still has a “rustic” side. Also a place that doesn’t have the helicopter parenting style of modern US, which he finds damaging. Here kids are given a lot of freedom and independence.

I just looked up the requirements for this visa and it is very favorable! Moldova is now on my short list if I wanted to explore expat life.
Your house is beautiful and it sounds like life is going well for you there. Well done!
Thats awesome! What kind of business?
A construction business. That’s what he was doing in the US too.
Assuming they work in metric over there how was that transition for him?
He was already accustomed to it, so smooth.
Accustomed to working in metric in the US? What kind of construction?! Every trade I’ve worked alongside worked in imperial…
Accustomed out of his own motivation. Not because it was required.
